Instrument by Fugazi
I just watched Fugazi’s Instrument yesterday morning. Incredible. Truly amazing. It documented 10 years of band’s career from 1987 to 1996. It compiled live footage, interviews and a brand new soundtrack that was composed by Fugazi for the film. One of the things that has stuck with me the most about the film other than Fugazi’s commitment to their music and their ethics in how they lived and how the “did” the band, was the way Guy Picciotto’s would perform. You can probably find some videos of him on YouTube so you can see for yourself, but he had totally responded physically to the music and his apparent feelings about it. Flailing all about, throwing himself onto the floor, doing balancing acts on mic stands as well as playing a sweet Rickenbacker. Few hardcore acts have used that guitar and I really like being in good company (also with Converge!)
He quickly became one of my favorite performers & frontmen. In fact, I think out of all the frontmen I’ve seen if there’s any I could be/perform like it’d be Guy. I hope Fugazi regroups and I have a chance to catch them live.
