The Fountain
Just finished the Fountain. Thought it was good, not great. 7/10. It’s a very well done, well-written, and quite beautiful movie. Very well thought out, planned, and edited. The storyline is good, believable within it’s universe, and the relationship between Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz is compelling and even emotionally draining at parts, but I [...]

The Dark Knight
They replaced Katie Holmes (or she didn’t wanna do a sequel) in the next Batman movie, The Dark Knight. I’m glad. Holmes, I felt, was the worst part of Begins. Guess who they replaced her with? Maggie Gyllenhaal. For those friends still not on the up and up, she was the girl in Stranger than [...]

Foreign Languages
I’ve been watching a lot of Spanish language movies lately (amores perros, next up volver, then y tu mama tambien, then pan’s labyrinth.) It makes me want to pick the language up again. Well, I guess learn it, as I only remember the questions words, and numbers and stuff. I think I want to learn [...]

Volver
Saw another Spanish language film tonight. This time it was Volver. Apparently, since in Spanish B’s and V’s are pronounced the same, and according to IMDB, the movie’s titled is actually said “Bowl-Bair.” I liked it. At first the movie seems pretty mysterious, and kind of mystical, and in the end turns out very sweet. [...]

Nicole Krauss
Caitlin, Katie, and Kate, you might be excited about this (assuming, Kate, that you’ve finally read The History of Love.) John Brit, I don’t know if you’ve read this book yet or not, but you should. Either way, you’ll be excited about the bit I put in bold. From New York Magazine Book Review: “Krauss’s [...]

Dogville
Chloë Sevigny in Dogville reminds me of Kate. Any resemblance to ya’ll? I think so, maybe a little. Particular shots especially. More so early senior year when Kate’s hair was the same.

The Fog of War
I’m currently watching the 2004 documentary The Fog of War. After reading some of this, if you’re interested there’s a 2 minute clip on YouTube. Robert McNamara just said one of the most chilling things I’ve ever heard about a conversation he had with Fidel Castro in 1992 about the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis: McNamara [...]

Million Dollar Baby
When I’m at work I tend to think. In fact, it never stops. I ruminate over all and every thing that enters my thoughts domain. Weighing possibilities, examining occurrences and my intentions as well as how I should have responded instead of the way I did. Sometimes I sing, that is, when I can remember [...]

Today’s sign of the apocalypse: Actor John Voight is playing Pope John Paul II in a CBS made-for-TV movie of the same name. May God be with us during these last days.
